Ever since its inception, Plyfoam has been dedicated to the manufacturing of Flexible Polyurethane Foam (FPF) commonly known as foam. FPF is a chemically complex polymeric product having a broad range of load bearing capability and resiliency, offering comfort as cushioning material for furniture, bedding, carpet underlay, and automotive interiors. FPF also offers protective shock absorption performance for use in packaging and automotive applications. FPF differs from other types of foams such as rigid foam and semi-rigid foams. These are used mainly in-door and for wall insulation in cold countries.
Types of Foam
Plyfoam manufactures foam of various densities, resiliencies, and sizes, to cater for the local demand. The Company is also able to offer a whole range of thicknesses (from 1 / 8 " to 30" or more), depending on the height of the foam slabs produced. Our standard slabs sizes are 36" x 75", 42" x 80", 54" x 75" and 60" x 80". Nonetheless, Plyfoam prides itself to provide any dimensions required by its customers, within its possibility.
The Company manufacturers foam of the following densities:STD - Standard foam
The Standard foam is generally pink in colour . It is of commercial quality and is the least expensive foam manufactured. This particularity has made it popular with the mattress retailers throughout the country as this type of foam has a high potential for profits. In this range of foam, Plyfoam is unbeatable on prices on the local market.D18 - Soft foam
This soft foam has a density of around 18kg/m³ and is of white colour . Its softness and durability makes it the favourite foam for furnishers, furniture manufacturers and cushion-makers alike. However, this type of foam is used in numerous other sectors. For example, the D18 is used for packing and packaging products for export, for quilting, for luxury binding of books, clothes padding, sound proofing, heat insulation, etc.D21 - Soft-Medium foam
This middle of the range foam is used mainly to make mattresses. It has a density of around 21kg/m³ and is of yellow colour . It is comfortable and durable particularly when used as mattresses. However its higher price and quality neither appeals to the mass market nor to the mattress retailers. Some institutions (such as prisons) still insist on that particular foam density due to its durability. The D12 foam recently passed a Mauritius Standard Bureau (MSB) test based on the South African Bureau of Standards.D25 - Medium-Hard foam
This firm foam has a density of around 25kg/m³ and is blue in colour . It is Plyfoam's top range, best-selling, mass-produced foam due to its firmness, resiliency, durability and affordability. While Plyfoam ensures the consistency of its foam quality, it cannot be said the same for its competitors. For example, the competitors' blue foam found on the local market are of inferior quality. Some of these foams have densities as low as 22kg/m³, thus meaning lower quality, durability, etc.D30/D35 - Specialised foam
These High Density foams are usually manufactured for special orders. They are generally grey in colour and are exclusively made by Plyfoam. These foams have a high resilience and densities between 30kg/m 3 and 35kg/m 3 . These products can also be manufactured to the clients' specifications. E.g. Plyfoam can make the D30 softer, for added comfort if this foam is to be used as mattresses in hotels. Or it can be made Fire Retardant (FR) if so is the wish of the client. The D30 foam is readily available at our factories only.
